Progress in plant tolerance to the fungal disease Sclerotinia in breeding experiments on winter oilseed rape

چکیده

Summary Sclerotinia sclerotiorum is a pathogen which causes disease of oilseed rape. Severe plant infection contributes to decrease in the quality crop. It therefore important pay attention whether hybrids are highly tolerant this fungal at early stages breeding. In study, question interest there has been progress increasing tolerance new pathogen. Three years breeding experiments (2014, 2015, 2017) included analysis. Each year, three five were carried out, with several dozen varieties and standards. series was repeated locations. Because degree assessed on scale (from 1 – highest 9 least infection), analysis out using an ordinal logistic model. noted that earlier standard varieties’ probability had smaller range (empirical 0.5–0.83) than last analyzed year 0.33–1.00). The results show 2014 2015 exhibited significantly higher Sclerotinia, but 2017 none better standard. Perhaps selection eliminated less varieties. However, be able draw more general conclusions, it would necessary repeat study controlled conditions (a greenhouse), where level spores their effect plants could controlled. Obtaining will enable reduction production costs, since no need monitor infestation occurs use corresponding protection products.

Crop Establishment Practices Are a Driver of the Plant Microbiota in Winter Oilseed Rape (Brassica napus)

Gaining a greater understanding of the plant microbiota and its interactions with its host plant heralds a new era of scientific discovery in agriculture. Different agricultural management practices influence soil microbial populations by changing a soil's physical, chemical and biological properties. However, the impact of these practices on the microbiota associated with economically importan...

Application of Hyperspectral Imaging to Detect Sclerotinia sclerotiorum on Oilseed Rape Stems

Hyperspectral imaging covering the spectral range of 384-1034 nm combined with chemometric methods was used to detect Sclerotinia sclerotiorum (SS) on oilseed rape stems by two sample sets (60 healthy and 60 infected stems for each set). Second derivative spectra and PCA loadings were used to select the optimal wavelengths. Discriminant models were built and compared to detect SS on oilseed rap...

Verticillium longisporum – identifying resistance to a new threat in winter oilseed rape

Verticillium in oilseed rape (OSR) is known since the 1930s in Sweden and the 1980s in Germany. The pathogen, Verticillium longisporum (VL), is host-specific to the Brassica species and particularly threatens the production of OSR in intense crop rotations. In contrast to diseases induced by other Verticillium species, VL does not induce wilt symptoms in OSR but stunted growth and premature blo...

Hidden Effects of Seed Quality Breeding on Germination in Oilseed Rape (Brassica napus L.)

Intense selection for specific seed qualities in winter oilseed rape breeding has had an inadvertent negative influence on seed germination performance. In a panel of 215 diverse winter oilseed rape varieties spanning over 50 years of breeding progress in winter-type rapeseed, we found that low seed erucic acid content and reduced seed glucosinolate content were significantly related with prolo...
